ISLAMABAD: Tetra Pak Pakistan reinforced its sustainability commitment by participating in the 28th Annual Sustainable Development Conference held by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). The company was represented by Noor Aftab, Director Corporate Affairs Pakistan and MENA Region, and Muhammad Bin Shahzad, Sustainability Manager at Tetra Pak.
The conference was themed “Sustainable Development in the Emerging World Dis|Order” and brought together representatives from government bodies, development partners, international institutions and regional stakeholders.
Participation in circular economy and dairy sector discussions
Global institutions, including IGES, UNESCAP, UNDP, UNOPS and the South Asia Circular Economy Forum took part in the conference, along with Pakistan’s federal ministries, World Bank, IMF, IFC, DFID and several regional dignitaries.
Tetra Pak officials participated in a plenary session on circular economy and sustainable food systems, with a focus on transforming Pakistan’s dairy sector. The company also joined discussions on climate resilience, recycling, sustainable packaging and nutrition-focused value chains.
These discussions emphasised the need for collaboration to strengthen the dairy value chain, improve recycling infrastructure and support low-carbon food systems.
Engagement with federal representatives and international organisations
Tetra Pak representatives engaged with government officials including Senator Musadik Masood Malik, Federal Minister for Climate Change; Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives; Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb; and Dr. Mahir Binici, Country Head IMF and Coordinator to the Prime Minister.
The company highlighted its ongoing work in circularity and sustainable packaging during these interactions.
Recognition for sustainability education
Tetra Pak received the Sustainability Award in the category of Sustainability Education & Community-Led Adaptation for its School Recycling Awareness Program, implemented with WWF Pakistan. The award recognises the initiative’s role in promoting environmental awareness and responsible waste management among young people.
Awais Bin Nasim, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Pakistan, said the company aims to support climate-resilient food systems and encouraged greater collaboration between governments, industry and development partners to advance circularity in Pakistan.
