Spending more time in front of TV deemed harmful

Massachusetts: A recent study found that engaging in physical activity instead of watching TV increases your chances of healthy aging.

According to the press release, the senior author of our study, Dr. Molen Wang, associate professor of medicine at the Harvard School of Public Health, said: “Our research shows that people should replace television time with moderate-intensity physical activity and sleep. This is very beneficial for healthy aging. .”

The study, published in the journal JAMA Network Open, analyzed more than 45,000 people aged 50 and older who did not suffer from chronic diseases.

The researchers collected data on the time the participants spent working, sitting at home and watching television, and standing or walking at home or in the office. They tracked this data for 20 years and then compared it with data related to the participants’ aging.

Dr. Andrew Freeman, director of the Division of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Health at the National Jewish Health in Denver, commented on the findings and said the results are not surprising because many studies have shown that sedentary behavior has negative health effects.
