Restrictions on Overseas Travel for Tax Evaders and Proposal of 75% Tax on Mobile Charges

Islamabad: The federal government has proposed to curb foreign travel for tax evaders in the next fiscal year’s budget, and impose a 75% tax on tax-evading mobile phone users.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman has said that non-filtering mobile users will be charged 75% tax while calls from inactive taxpayers will be charged 75%.

He said proposals have also been made to restrict foreign travel for tax evaders. Tax evaders can no longer travel abroad except for Hajj, Umrah and educational purposes where there are exceptions.

The FBR chairman further explained that an amendment to the tax law has been proposed through the Finance Bill in this regard.
