Punjab govt approves proposal for new drug prevention dept

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the construction of three police stations for anti-narcotics measures.

The meeting of the Department of Excise, Taxes and Narcotics Control was chaired by the Chief Minister. It has been decided to create a new drug prevention department, while other measures include the construction of 13 excise check posts to stop drug smuggling.

The meeting was informed that work on electronic vehicle registration has started, with tax collection increasing by 12.5%.

In addition, rehabilitation of the opium factory was reviewed and it was assessed that 900 million rupees would benefit pharmaceuticals. The excise department would provide its services through the Dastak scheme and work with the Safe City Authority to enforce challans.

Mr. Chief Minister ordered to remove the accumulation of vehicle registration plates and sought assessment report on the difference of tax as per rental value and DC rate.

During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz said that a tax counseling unit will be set up and people who do not pay taxes should be brought into the tax net.
