The joint parliamentary party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) announced plans to protest the government’s decision to ban PTI and take Article 6 action against its founding chairman.
The decision was made at a meeting on Thursday, where key steps and strategies were outlined.
According to a statement from the meeting, there was strong opposition to the alleged violations of the constitution, including the arrest and enforced disappearance of assembly members.
The Joint Parliamentary Party strongly condemned the government’s move to ban PTI and demanded similar action under Article 6 against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and others involved in the alleged election fraud.
Concerns were also raised over the ad hoc appointment of Supreme Court judges, with members highlighting the seriousness of deviations from established seat allocation decisions.
During the meeting, PTI’s Atif Khan suggested mobilizing the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for a protest rally in Islamabad, stressing the need for assertive action rather than token gestures. Zartaj Gul, however, expressed reservations about holding a rally in Islamabad without obtaining necessary permissions.
The parliamentary party agreed that any PTI member facing security threats should seek refuge in the KP House. In addition, Barrister Gohar suggested that the issue of ad hoc judges be handled through a judicial commission.
