Maulana arrives in Karachi on eve of PM vote

KARACHI: Despite signs of “good news” pouring in for the PML-N, all efforts to win over JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman appeared to have failed on Saturday as he drove down the main road to Karachi, dashing all hopes of jumping on the bandwagon the train. incoming governments.

The former ally, out of clout, arrived in Karachi resolute in his decision to avoid a government hand-crafted by the PML-N, PPP and other allied parties after the February 8 general elections in which the Maulana suffered a humiliating defeat.

The departure of the JUI-F emir came on the eve of the presidential election slated for Sunday (today), where PML-N’s Shehbaz Sharif is poised to secure the coveted post, a former ally he supported to take over the mantle of the coveted post in 2022.

However, Fazl’s party, determined to remain in the opposition trenches, flatly rejected the results of the February 8 election and is showing no signs of pushing for a coalition.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman landed in Karachi for the JUI-F Sindh meeting at Korangi on Sunday (today).

Information JUI Sindh Deputy Secretary Maulana Samiul Haq Swati along with Rashid Mehmood Soomro, General Secretary Sindh Chapter and other leaders warmly welcomed the Chief on his three-day visit to the metropolis.

Swati disclosed that members from all districts of JUI Sindh will gather for an “important” meeting where Maulana Fazlur Rehman will deliver a major speech on the issue of election rigging.

Emphasizing the significance of the rally, Swati mentioned that Maulana Fazlur Rehman would give instructions to the officials of JUI Sindh. In addition, Fazl is scheduled to hold a press conference on the relevant issues.

The development came hot on the heels of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the Maulana’s residence in Islamabad to seek support for the incoming coalition government. The JUI-F had earlier abstained from voting for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly.

The meeting was held a day after PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah’s failed attempt to influence Fazl failed to secure JUI-F’s support for the PML-N-led coalition.
