ICC greenlights budget for 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan

The International Cricket Council (ICC) approved the budget for the 2025 Champions Trophy on Monday, on the last day of its meetings.

The budget, carefully crafted by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in collaboration with the ICC, was given the go-ahead after thorough discussions. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi represented Pakistan in these key meetings.

The Champions Trophy will be held at three major venues in Pakistan: Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore. According to the PCB’s proposed schedule, Lahore will exclusively host all matches of the Indian cricket team, a major decision amid a complex geopolitical landscape.

In addition, the PCB has earmarked Rs 12.80 billion for the improvement of three major stadiums. This substantial investment will focus on upgrading the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi and the Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium to ensure they meet international standards for the upcoming tournament.

Historically, while other participating teams have played in Pakistan, the PCB still hopes that India will also make it to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. The PCB has a firm stand that Pakistan should be the exclusive venue as the host country. all matches, asserting their ability and readiness to host the entire event.

The ICC Annual Session will continue in Colombo from July 19 to 22, where the PCB will strongly advocate for hosting all matches in Pakistan, emphasizing the country’s readiness and determination to host a successful tournament.
