Govt jacks up petrol by Rs9.99, diesel Rs6.18 per litre

Another wave of price hikes has hit Pakistanis hard as the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif-led government announced massive hikes in petrol and diesel prices.

As per the latest announcement, petrol price increased by Rs 9.99 to hit a new high of Rs 275.60 per litre.

Likewise, high-speed diesel saw a sharp increase of Rs 6.18 per liter now at Rs 283.63.

These new rates will come into effect from midnight and will remain in effect until July 31.

The Ministry of Finance has confirmed that there has been no change to the tax or levy on petroleum products while maintaining the existing tax structure.

With inflation already a pressing issue, these price increases are likely to further erode citizens’ purchasing power and put additional pressure on households struggling to make ends meet.
