Controversy over a promotional campaign for Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has prompted Pakistani actress Zhalay Sarhadi to be compared to a strict desi mom on social media.
The campaign, which has been running for several days now, highlights the achievements of Maryam Nawaz and features several social media influencers as well as well-known Pakistani celebrities including singer Aima Baig, Urwa Hocane, Sanam Saeed, Saba Qamar and Zhalay Sarhadi.
But public reaction to the campaign was negative, sparking outrage and calls for a boycott of the artists involved.
Zhalay Sarhadi responded to the criticism by sharing a witty note on her Instagram account comparing social media users to strict “desi moms”.
When you leave your glass on the table after a day at work, you hear, ‘Useless! You’re not doing anything’.”
Sarhadi pointed out that just like a desi mother points out small mistakes, so do people on social media pass harsh judgment on the basis of one mistake.
