California: Video streaming platform YouTube has also raised the prices of its premium service, following Netflix, Apple TV Plus and Disney Plus.
The company has increased the price of the YouTube Premium Family Plan in the UK from £17.99 to £19.99, while prices in the US and Canada have increased by up to 30 per cent.
YouTube in its premium service allows users to watch videos without ads, download videos and play videos in the background of other apps.
YouTube Premium subscribers were notified of the price increase via email.
In the email, YouTube said the company created YouTube Premium to give users a seamless YouTube experience to get closer to video creators and music artists.
The email added that prices will be increased to continue to improve service and features.
The price hike will take effect from November 21, but users have threatened to abandon the service after flooding social media with complaints about the platform.
Users took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to express their anger.
“I had YouTube Premium from the beginning and canceled it after the price hike,” said one user.
One customer said the company is out of touch with reality.
