Video-sharing platform YouTube has introduced a new way for users to earn income.
If you enjoy live streaming on YouTube, the company is offering a new earning opportunity. YouTube is launching a new feature for creators called “Jewels,” which allows them to earn money through vertical live streams. Jewels is a digital currency that can be sent as a gift to your favorite creators.
This gift will appear on the live stream screen in an animated form. This feature is similar to TikTok’s live gift feature, where users buy coins and send them as gifts.
In a statement, YouTube explained that when viewers use Jewels to send gifts, creators will receive “Rubies.” Each Ruby is equivalent to one cent in US dollars, meaning 100 Rubies will equal one dollar.
For the next three months, eligible creators will also receive a 50% bonus on earnings from Jewels. Creators will only receive this gift when they conduct a vertical live stream on YouTube, and viewers will only be able to send Jewels through the mobile app.
This feature is currently being rolled out to users in the United States, but it is expected to be introduced in other countries in the coming months. Earning from this feature will be available to creators who are part of the YouTube Partner Program.
