Hollywood’s globally renowned superstar, Tom Cruise, has once again proven that he is willing to go to any lengths to bring authenticity to his performances.
In a recent interview, Tom Cruise revealed that while filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, he fainted multiple times while performing an extremely dangerous stunt.
In the film’s teaser, Cruise can be seen hanging from a small aircraft while it is flying at an altitude of 10,000 feet. This high-speed stunt, which exposed his face to winds exceeding 120 miles per hour, was an extraordinary challenge for him.
He explained that when you stick your face out at a speed of 120 to 130 miles per hour, oxygen levels drop significantly, making it difficult to breathe. Due to this, he had to undergo special breathing training. Several times, he lost consciousness and was unable to make his way back into the cockpit.
Famous for performing his own dangerous stunts, Tom Cruise has previously executed several extreme action sequences in the Mission: Impossible series, which have contributed to his legendary status.
The film’s director, Christopher McQuarrie, stated that this installment includes even more astonishing stunts than before. He added, “There are scenes in this movie that will leave the audience in complete awe. Tom Cruise constantly pushed himself to outdo his previous performances and pulled off some breathtakingly dangerous stunts that will blow your mind.”
He also mentioned another stunt so extreme that merely thinking about it can cause anxiety.
It’s worth noting that in the past, Tom Cruise has hung from a flying airplane, completed hundreds of skydives despite a broken ankle, and repeatedly tested the limits of his endurance.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning is set to hit theaters this May.
