PESHAWAR: The World Food Programme (WFP) has launched the development of Local Climate Change Adaptation Plans (LCCAPs) for Shangla and Buner districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under its Integrated Climate Risk Management (ICRM) Project.
The initiative aims to strengthen climate resilience in the two highly vulnerable districts by supporting locally focused planning and identifying measures to address increasing climate-related risks.
An inception meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Government of Pakistan, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and district administrations.
Participants were briefed on the LCCAP development process and discussed key climate risks facing Shangla and Buner, along with priority areas for adaptation and resilience-building.
The plans will help identify local climate risks, prioritize practical adaptation measures and support climate-resilient development through stronger coordination among government institutions and other stakeholders.
District-level consultations will form a key part of the process, ensuring that the adaptation plans reflect the specific needs, vulnerabilities and priorities of local communities.
The initiative is expected to strengthen local preparedness and support more effective responses to climate-related challenges, while promoting community-led and locally informed climate adaptation in vulnerable areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
