Vitamin D Deficiency and Mental Health Issues

Vitamin D is important for many body functions, but recent studies have revealed a possible link between vitamin D and mental health disorders such as depression and anxiety.

Several studies have found that vitamin D is essential for preventing depression and anxiety because of its antioxidant properties and ability to affect brain tissue. As a result, some researchers recommend testing vitamin D to prevent and treat this disorder.

Symptoms of vitamin D deficiency include fatigue, mood changes, increased sensitivity to pain, muscle weakness, cognitive impairment (episodic memory impairment and impaired performance), feelings of hopelessness or sadness, lack of interest in activities, decreased pleasure, fatigue or weight gain. and unemployment.

Factors that contribute to vitamin D deficiency include reduced exposure to sunlight, aging, darkening of the skin, obesity, and malnutrition. People exposed to these factors are more likely to have low vitamin D levels.
