According to medical experts, fifty million people worldwide die every year from antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Health Services, Professor Dr Shahzad Ali Khan, said it was inevitable to control the illegal use of antibiotics. Officials said people should be careful and not use the drug without a doctor’s advice.
According to Pakistani and foreign experts, bacteria responsible for infections such as pneumonia, diarrhea, typhoid, tuberculosis and blood and lung infections in Pakistan have developed resistance to the latest antibiotics. Antibiotics worth 126 billion rupees will be used in Pakistan by 2023, according to Drug Regulatory Authority Pakistan.
