ISLAMABAD, November 4, 2026 — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed federal ministries to strengthen the implementation of austerity and energy-saving measures, stressing the need for effective monitoring and accountability across government departments.
The directives were issued during a review meeting chaired by the prime minister to assess progress on measures aimed at reducing government expenditure and conserving energy.
During the meeting, federal ministries were instructed to submit detailed reports on work-from-home arrangements and provide documentary evidence of official vehicles taken off the road under the austerity plan.
To ensure effective implementation, the prime minister constituted a special committee led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar to review progress on a daily basis.
The committee will monitor compliance by government departments and assess the implementation of the measures introduced to reduce unnecessary expenditure and fuel consumption.
The government has also ordered a third-party audit to independently verify the implementation of austerity measures and ensure transparency in the reporting process.
The latest directives underline the government’s focus on strengthening administrative oversight, conserving national resources and ensuring that austerity decisions are translated into measurable results.
