In South Korea, a man who intentionally gained 21 kilograms to avoid mandatory military service has been sentenced to two years in prison, while the friend who advised him on how to gain weight received a six-month sentence.
According to foreign media reports, the defendant admitted his wrongdoing and expressed willingness to complete his mandatory military duty with sincerity.
The court found that the defendant had intentionally increased his weight by more than 21 kilograms to evade military service.
Reports indicated that the 26-year-old man devised this plan after learning that if his Body Mass Index (BMI) exceeded 35, he could be exempted from the mandatory military service.
In South Korea, men under the age of 30 are required to complete at least two years of military service.
