In a historic performance, Bangladesh’s leading batsman Shakib Al Hasan etched his name in the annals of cricket history by becoming the first bowler to claim 50 wickets in the T20 World Cup.
The record-breaking feat took place in the Super 8 Group 1 match against India at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Saturday.
Known for his extraordinary skills, Shakib reached the highest point by dismissing Indian captain Rohit Sharma in the fourth over of India’s innings. The remarkable progress shows not only Shakib’s prowess with the ball but also his importance in Bangladesh’s T20 squad.
Because of this historic moment, Shakib led the list of highest wicket takers in the T20 World Cup with 50 wickets. He was followed by Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi with 39 points, Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga with 38 points, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga with 37 points and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal with 36 points.
Shakib’s incredible T20I career saw him take 148 wickets in 128 matches, making him the second highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals. Only New Zealand Tim Southee has 164 wickets to his name.
