Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is never shy about sharing funny anecdotes from his personal life, and that’s one of the reasons his fans eagerly follow his interviews. Recently, a past interview of Shah Rukh Khan has gone viral on social media, where he recalls telling his wife Gauri to wear a burqa during their wedding.
In an old show hosted by Farida Jalal, Shah Rukh shared a story from his wedding day. He recalled that when he arrived around 1:15 AM, Gauri’s family was sitting together, whispering, wondering if he would make her change her name or convert to Islam.
Shah Rukh humorously revealed that during the reception, he jokingly told Gauri to wear a burqa and change her name to Ayesha. “I saw the time and said, ‘Alright, Gauri, wear your burqa, and let’s go for prayers,'” he recalled. Her family looked on, confused and wondering if Shah Rukh had already changed her religion. He continued joking, saying, “From now on, she will always wear a burqa, never leave the house, and her name will be Ayesha. She will remain this way.”
The actor explained that this remark left Gauri’s entire family in shock, as they feared he was serious about altering her identity. Shah Rukh later admitted that playing with people’s emotions, especially regarding religion, was a wrong move.
It’s worth noting that Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri got married in 1991, and they have three children: Aryan, AbRam, and Suhana.
