The twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad experienced severe weather conditions, including heavy rains and flooding, leading to significant disruptions.
According to a Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) spokesperson, the rain has stopped and the water level in Nullah Leh is beginning to recede. Drainage operations from low-lying areas in Rawalpindi have been completed and traffic has returned to normal with no standing water reported.
The Met Department has predicted more rainfall for the city.
Earlier, Rawalpindi and Islamabad were hit by torrential rains resulting in a flood situation in Nullah Leh with the water level reaching 22.7 feet in Katarian and 18.5 feet in Gowalmandi. Evacuation alarms were activated in low-lying areas.
People living on the banks of the nullah were ordered to leave their settlements. Residents of nearby villages were moved to a safer place. Heavy rain has resulted in 71.48 mm rainfall in the twin cities including Liaquat Bagh, Chandni Chowk, Shamsabad, Saddar, Kutchehry and Adiala Road.
In Wazirabad, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds brought relief from the intense heat, while Attock also saw rain and thunderstorms which improved the weather conditions. Abbottabad continues to experience intermittent rain, with flooding in rivers due to heavy rainfall. Rain is expected to continue in Abbottabad for the next two days.
Swabi was badly affected by flooding from rivers and canals after overnight rains. Water entered houses in Yaqubi and Dagai and four people were rescued from a flooded house in Dubyan village by Rescue 1122. Flood relief efforts are ongoing and affected residents are being shifted to safety.
People are busy pumping water out of their houses with their own help, while the walls of many houses have been damaged due to the downpour. The streets of the city began to present a pond scene.
In the northeastern districts of Balochistan, rivers are flowing at high levels and significant flooding is reported.
Karachi is experiencing pleasant weather with dark cloud formations and light drizzle in various areas including Saddar, II Chundrigar, Jehangir Road, Gurumandir and Shahrah-e-Faisal.
The Met department has predicted light rain and drizzle for the city, with temperatures expected to range from 28 to 32 degrees Celsius. Winds are blowing from the southwest at 10 to 15 km/h and humidity is expected to be between 65% and 75%.
