A severe heat wave is spreading in several parts of Pakistan, with temperatures rising above normal levels.
The Met Department has issued warnings for various areas including Umarkot, Larkana, Rahim Khanar Khan, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, Naudero, Nawabsha and Multan.
Most of the plains of the country will be affected by the intense heat wave, said the department. In addition, the plains of Sindh and Punjab are particularly affected, with temperatures expected to be 4-6 degrees above normal.
Weather conditions in Islamabad and adjoining areas are expected to be very hot and dry, which will worsen the situation.
Punjab Beware
In response to the intensifying heat wave, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for Punjab, including the provincial capital Lahore. Special measures are taken to reduce the impact of unusual smells.
Thermal wave counters have been installed at Mayo Hospital and General Hospital in Lahore. These counters are equipped with banners showing precautionary measures to help people cope with high temperatures. Hospital authorities have confirmed that they are ready with all the necessary medicines to treat patients suffering from heat wave.
“So far, we have not received any patients suffering from heat-related illnesses,” said a representative of the hospital administration. “However, we are fully equipped and ready to handle such incidents.”
The Met Department on Tuesday said that day temperatures in Sindh and Punjab are expected to rise by 4-6 degrees above normal from May 21 to May 23. The temperature is expected to increase and from May it will reach 6-8 degrees above normal between the 23rd and 27th.
A similar temperature anomaly is expected in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan, where the daytime temperature will be 4-6 degrees above the average during that time.
