KARACHI: The headquarters of the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) was illuminated with green lights on the occasion of Independence Day, drawing public attention while highlighting the message of environmental protection and a greener Sindh.
The interior and exterior of the SEPA building were decorated in a distinctive green theme, reflecting the vision of an environment-friendly Pakistan and reinforcing the importance of environmental responsibility alongside the celebrations of national independence.
The main facade of the building featured a combination of green, red and other colours representing the national colours of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The display also highlighted the recent Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and the strong fraternal and strategic ties between the three countries.
Sindh Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Faisal Uqaili said the green illumination of the SEPA headquarters was aimed at spreading the message of environmental protection while celebrating the spirit of Independence Day.
He said Pakistan’s historic, religious and fraternal ties with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye were of great importance. The recent joint defence agreement signed in Makkah, he added, had further underscored the significance of cooperation and solidarity among the three countries.
Uqaili said the special decoration of the SEPA building reflected the spirit of friendship, brotherhood and cooperation while also conveying an environmental message to the public.
SEPA Director General Ashiq Langah said the agency had been marking national days through innovative initiatives to promote environmental awareness among citizens.
He said illuminating the building in green on Independence Day was intended to convey the message that protecting the environment was also a national responsibility.
“Celebrating freedom must go hand in hand with protecting our natural environment,” Langah said, emphasizing the importance of tree plantation, reducing air pollution, conserving natural resources and maintaining clean surroundings.
The SEPA director general urged citizens to adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles and actively contribute to making Sindh greener and cleaner.
He said collective action by government institutions, communities and individuals was essential to protecting the environment and ensuring a healthier and more sustainable future for coming generations.
The green illumination of the SEPA headquarters thus served as both a visual Independence Day tribute and a reminder that a clean, green and environmentally sustainable Pakistan is a shared national responsibility.
