GUJRAT: A thought-provoking seminar titled “Islam: Question or Answer? The Role of Religion in Shaping Modern Society” was hosted by the Office of Student Affairs at The University of Chenab (UChenab), bringing together scholars, faculty, and students for an engaging dialogue on faith and contemporary challenges.

Intellectual discourse led by Khurshid Nadeem

Renowned columnist and intellectual Khurshid Nadeem opened the discussion with a philosophical reflection on religion’s enduring relevance. He emphasized that Islam should not be viewed merely as ritual or history, but as a moral compass capable of guiding humanity through evolving social structures. Nadeem, who also chairs the Rahmat-ul-Alameen Authority, responded to critical questions from participants with measured insight, turning the session into a dynamic academic exchange.

Scholarly critique and reflections

The seminar’s closing remarks were delivered by Professor Sheikh Abdul Rashid, who offered a detailed critique of Nadeem’s address and the subsequent Q&A. He argued that religion must be understood as a living principle rather than static dogma, highlighting its potential to foster social progress and intellectual humility. Rashid underscored that ethical values rooted in religious thought provide a counterbalance to the rise of moral relativism in secular contexts.

Concluding acknowledgments

Deputy Chairman of UChenab, Naveed Akbar, concluded the seminar with a vote of thanks. He praised the guest speakers for their contributions and commended the active participation of faculty and students. Akbar expressed gratitude to Khurshid Nadeem for his insights into the dialogue between faith and modern society, presenting him with a commemorative shield to mark the occasion.
