PMAS-AAUR hosts Seed to Startup 2025 expo to boost agribusiness innovation

RAWALPINDI: The Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) organised the Seed to Startup 2025 Entrepreneurship Expo, highlighting the theme of transforming research into agribusiness. The event gathered students, researchers, policymakers, agri-startups and industry representatives to explore entrepreneurship opportunities in seed technology and plant sciences.

Focus on research-driven agribusiness

Punjab MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed inaugurated the expo. The event was attended by PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, the Registrar, Deans, Directors, faculty members and students. Keynote speakers included Muhammad Azam Khan, Director General, Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department, and Aamir Iqbal representing Bayer Pvt. Ltd.

In his remarks, MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed stressed the need to transfer research-backed solutions to farmers. He said that farmers rely on research institutions for innovation and practical techniques that can improve productivity. He added that the expo also promotes internships and training opportunities for students entering the agriculture sector.

Strengthening seed innovation and food security

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman emphasised that quality seed is crucial for food security and higher yields. He called for strong collaboration between research institutions and the agriculture industry to commercialise scientific advancements.

He noted that climate change is creating new challenges for farming and highlighted the importance of hybrid varieties and modern agricultural technologies. He appreciated the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics for organising an informative event that encourages agricultural entrepreneurship.

Exhibitions and knowledge-sharing activities

The expo featured panel discussions, exhibitions, awareness sessions and poster presentations, offering hands-on learning for students and networking opportunities for agriculture stakeholders.
