Maritime security exercise Sea Guard-26 wraps up in Karachi

Sea Guard-26 maritime security exercise concludes in Karachi, reviewing inter-agency coordination, port defence operations, and maritime response readiness.

Karachi, February 10, 2026 — The maritime security exercise Sea Guard-26 concluded in Karachi with a formal debrief session, marking the end of a multi-stakeholder effort to test coordination and response capabilities across Pakistan’s maritime sector. The exercise focused on improving information-sharing and joint responses to potential security and safety challenges at sea.

Vice Admiral Raja Rab Nawaz, Chief of Staff of the Pakistan Navy, attended the debrief as the chief guest. Participants were briefed on an analytical assessment of the exercise, which reviewed the execution of various scenarios designed to evaluate preparedness, communication channels, and inter-agency response mechanisms.

Focus on preparedness and collaboration

Officials said the exercise underscored the importance of sustained coordination among maritime stakeholders. The chief guest acknowledged the role of the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre (JMICC) in facilitating cooperation among civilian and military entities, and stressed continued engagement to safeguard maritime routes, ports, and critical infrastructure.

Sea Guard-26 was the third exercise in the series and brought together government regulatory bodies, law enforcement agencies, private sector organizations, and representatives from academia. Operational components included port and harbour defence, protection of vessels and maritime infrastructure, counter-narcotics activities, and search and rescue operations.

The exercise aimed to strengthen collective readiness within Pakistan’s maritime domain by enhancing situational awareness and reinforcing coordinated response frameworks.
