DHAKA: The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Basic and Mass Education have said in separate notices that primary and secondary schools, colleges, madrasahs and technical institutes will remain closed until April 27.
Schools should open on the Sunday after the Eid al-Fitr holiday. However, they will now be closed and reopen on April 27 (Sunday).
The decision was taken based on the 72-hour heat warning issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Meteorological Department from Mother’s Day.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued a 72-hour heat warning on Friday after temperatures crossed 41°C (105F). He predicted that the heatwave will continue for more days as temperatures rise.
Temperatures in the South Asian country exceeded 40°C in four of the seven episodes, marking a severe heat wave in the region.
According to the Meteorological Department, the country’s highest temperature was recorded in southwest Jessore district at 42.6°C.
Meanwhile, power outages across the country add to the hardships of the people.
