The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held its 19th annual meeting in Kazakhstan to highlight the rise of terrorism in the region as the Taliban took over Afghanistan.
Member states such as China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Iran, and Uzbekistan have expressed concern over the use of Afghan territory by terrorist groups.
The SCO has called on the Taliban-led Afghan government to keep its promises and implement an effective counter-terrorism strategy. The national security adviser said there is an urgent need to combat the international terrorist threat originating from Afghanistan.

Security Council The Security Council stressed the importance of increasing cooperation to combat terrorism, organized crime, terrorist financing, and illegal migration. Members noted the threat posed by terrorist groups based in Afghanistan.
In recent years, members of the SCO and other international organizations have expressed concern about Afghanistan’s role as a terrorist hub. The concern now is whether the Afghan government will take concrete steps to address the problems at hand. As the region grapples with the threat of terrorism, the world expects significant steps from Afghanistan.
