A study has found that listening to classical music during meals helps individuals choose lower-fat foods and consume fewer calories. A team of experts, including those from University College London, revealed that listening to classical music while eating can aid in weight management. However, avoiding jazz, rap, and rock music is advisable, as participants who listened to these genres tended to select unhealthy, high-calorie junk food.
Research published in the journal Brain Topography confirmed previous findings that calm music reduces hunger, while fast-paced music increases appetite. Researchers believe that soft-tempo classical music reduces activity in the part of the brain responsible for hunger intensity. Studies suggest that quieter music and higher-pitched sounds promote healthier food choices.
