India captain Rohit Sharma expressed immense satisfaction on Sunday after his team secured a comprehensive Test victory with a young side over England.
The hosts secured their biggest Test victory as they beat England by 434 runs in Rajkot on the fourth day of the match to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Yashasvi Jaiswal played a key role in the win, scoring an unbeaten 214 and forming a significant partnership of 172 runs with debutant Sarfaraz Khan, who contributed 68 not out.
This dominant performance set the stage for India’s triumph.
Despite the absence of star batsmen Virat Kohli and KL Rahul due to personal reasons and injuries respectively, Rohit praised the young team for its resilience.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by the absence of experienced players, but praised the newcomers for showing character and making significant contributions.
Rohit stated, “Two debutants and not many Test matches among the playing eleven… it was not easy for us to come here and win this series, especially with a lot of our leading players missing. .”
He emphasized the satisfaction of winning a Test match in such circumstances and noted the impressive performances of the young players who seem to have found their place in the team.

Jaiswal, a 22-year-old left-handed batsman, showed exceptional form by scoring his second consecutive double century and amassing a total of 545 runs. Rohit praised Jaiswal’s performance and stated, “He is playing well, it is good for us and he is in good form.”
Sarfaraz Khan (26) impressed with his fearless batting and scored 62 in the match. Rohit mentioned the absence of nervousness in the debutant and praised his emotional yet focused approach on the field.
The captain also confirmed the return of senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on day four after he left the Test on day three to be with his ailing mother. Ashwin contributed a wicket and Rohit praised his dedication to the team, saying, “It shows the kind of person he is… he wants to put everything forward for the team.”
Expressing his delight at the momentous win, Rohit Sharma hailed the young talent who came through in tough conditions and showed their potential to thrive at the international level.
