Respite from intense heat, as New Delhi gets early morning shower

India’s capital New Delhi enjoyed a relaxing morning on Thursday after a sweltering heat wave.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted cloudy skies with a chance of light rain and gusty winds throughout the day, accompanied by thunder or thundershowers.

The weather update has warned that moderate to heavy rains and gusty winds with a speed of 30-50 km per hour are likely to prevail over Delhi-NCR and adjoining areas before noon on Thursday.

The department also predicted cloudy skies with rain, thunder or dust storms on Monday and Saturday.

At 8:30 am on Thursday, the humidity level was recorded at 67%, with a minimum temperature of 29.6 degrees and a maximum of 42 degrees.

Much of northern India, including the national capital, is experiencing a prolonged and intense heat wave, leading to a rise in heat-related deaths. The Center has asked hospitals to set up special wards to treat such patients.

Police reported that 50 dead bodies of people belonging to the lower classes have been found in Delhi in the last three days. Also, the National Capital’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the “poor” category with a reading of 214, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.
