ISLAMABAD: A resolution has been added to the agenda of the scheduled Senate meeting, which proposes banning major social media platforms in the country, including Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, the platform formerly known as Twitter (referred to as X) and YouTube. will take place on March 4.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Bahramand Tangi introduced the resolution.
In the resolution, the senator proposed to ban mainstream social media platforms due to their possible misuse against the interests of the country with the aim of protecting the young generation from their negative and harmful effects.

Even if approved, the resolution will not have any legal obligation. He also pointed out that these platforms are being used for vested interests to spread fake news on various issues.
The PPP reportedly revoked Senator Tangi’s basic party membership for violating party discipline and failing to respond to a show cause notice issued to him over his silence on the resolution advocating the postponement of the February 8 election.
