KARACHI: The time for a tough decision to resign or sack Babar Azam and Mickey Arthur is nearing as both will attend a meeting with board officials today along with other officials.
Babar Azam’s captaincy has been under fire after his disappointing performance in the Asia Cup and World Cup, with many former stars advising him to quit leadership and focus on batting.
According to the sources, the board also agrees with this, however, some quarters have advised Babar to retain the captaincy in the Test series against Australia and take back the responsibility only in the white ball.
The selection committee was dismissed on the basis of poor performance in the World Cup
In today’s meeting, Chairman PCB Management Committee Zaka Ashraf will talk directly with the captain. According to sources, Babar himself may also leave the leadership, but if this does not happen, the board will have to take some steps on its own.
Officials believe that Babar, freed from the burden of captaincy, can be more useful to the team as a batsman.
“Let Babar Azam learn now, don’t remove him from captaincy”
Sources further said that team director Mickey Arthur and other coaches will also be given the option to resign, if they do not agree, they will be instructed to work in the National Cricket Academy etc. Wanting to be appointed, various options have already been considered in this regard.
Remember that Arthur has been criticized for online coaching, he did not accept a full-time job due to his commitments with English county Derbyshire, his team did not win any of 14 matches in the Twenty20 Championship and eight. The teams were ranked sixth.
The Pakistani side’s performance in the World Cup has also been disappointing and they have not even reached the semi-finals.
