In a significant discovery, researchers from the University of Bergen in Norway have identified a comb jellyfish that could potentially be a candidate for biological immortality.
According to the New York Post, the comb jellyfish has now joined its close relative, the well-known immortal jellyfish (Turritopsis dohrnii), in the ranks of organisms with potential immortality.
While studying these creatures, the scientists examined the larva of a jellyfish that was expected to grow into an adult jellyfish. This unexpected discovery, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, offers intriguing insights into the ability to reverse the aging process in other animals.
Experts found that the comb jellyfish possesses an astonishing ability to reduce its biological age.
Co-author of the study, John J. Angel, stated that this research challenges our understanding of animal development and body management, revealing the potential for animals to regenerate and reverse aging.
