RCCI hosts Ethiopian ambassador-designate for talks on trade, investment and institutional cooperation

Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) hosted Ethiopia’s ambassador-designate to Pakistan, Dr. Oumer Hussein Oba, to discuss bilateral trade, investment opportunities, and institutional cooperation between the two countries.

Meeting focuses on bilateral economic cooperation

During the meeting at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, discussions covered trade facilitation, investment prospects, and possible frameworks to strengthen economic engagement between Pakistan and Ethiopia. Both sides explored ways to enhance coordination between business institutions and promote future collaboration.

Chamber briefed on Ethiopia’s economic sectors

Addressing RCCI members from various sectors, Dr. Oba outlined recent economic reforms undertaken by the Ethiopian government. He highlighted opportunities in agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, tourism, and information and communication technology. The ambassador-designate also informed participants about the “Invest in Ethiopia” forum scheduled for March 26–27, 2026, in Addis Ababa, which is expected to bring together international investors and policymakers.

RCCI leadership discusses trade potential

RCCI President Usman Shaukat welcomed the visiting envoy and referred to existing engagement between the chamber and the Ethiopian embassy. He noted the importance of business-to-business and people-to-people contacts in supporting economic relations. Other RCCI office-bearers, including Senior Vice President Khalid Farooq Qazi, Vice President Fahad Barlas, and former president Raja Amer, also shared views on future Pakistan-Ethiopia economic ties.

The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session. The business chamber later hosted a cake-cutting ceremony to mark Christmas.
