ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad district administration has decided to reopen the spillways of Rawal Dam on Wednesday, September 2, as heavy rainfall in Islamabad and surrounding areas has pushed the water level in the reservoir to 1,751.40 feet.
According to the district administration, the Rawal Dam spillways will be opened at 2:30pm today to manage the rising water level and ensure the safety of the dam and surrounding areas.
Rescue 1122, police and other relevant departments have been directed to remain on high alert during the opening of the spillways. The administration has also instructed all concerned agencies to take necessary precautionary measures before the spillways are opened.
The district administration has urged citizens to avoid visiting streams, nullahs and low-lying areas, particularly during the release of water from the dam.
Residents in vulnerable areas have also been advised to exercise caution and follow safety instructions issued by the administration and emergency response agencies.
The latest decision comes amid continued heavy monsoon rainfall in Islamabad and adjoining areas, which has contributed to a rapid rise in water levels at Rawal Dam.
