Lahore: University of the Punjab’s Center for Peace & Security Studies and sociology department organized an awareness seminar titled ‘promoting socio-economic development through safe charity practices in Punjab’ in collaboration with the Punjab Charity Commission, Govt. of the Punjab, here on Thursday.
Speakers of the seminar including the CEO of Punjab Charity Commission Col (R) Shahzad Amir, Legal Advisor Mudassar Butt, Prof. Dr. Farhan Navid Yousaf, Executive Director SSDO Kausar Abbas and Dr. Fouzia Sadaf claimed that Pakistanis are regarded as one of the world’s most philanthropic people.
With the help of benefactors’ charities, a number of social service providers operate throughout Pakistan.
Speakers further said that these charitable organizations operate a number of humanitarian initiatives, including hospitals, ageing homes, orphan shelters, and educational institutions, among others.
They emphasized on using charities wisely so that they could lead to addressing socioeconomic disparities and promote sustainable development.
They also highlighted the significant role of academia in conducting research that could help in evidence-based interventions and also creating awareness among public about donating responsibly.
Vice Chancellor Punjab University Dr. Muhammad Ali while meeting the speakers of the seminar appreciated the interventions of Punjab Charity Commission and said the university will collaborate with the Commission to promote safe charity practices in the province.
