Punjab Reviews Water Resource Management Plan to Strengthen Water Conservation

LAHORE: The Punjab government has reviewed its Water Resource Management Program to advance water conservation, improve coordination among government agencies and promote sustainable water management across the province.

Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo chaired a meeting on the programme at the Additional Chief Secretary’s Office. Director General Punjab WASA Tayyab Farid also attended the meeting.

The session focused on strategic initiatives to conserve water resources, strengthen coordination among relevant departments and improve the management of water supplies across Punjab.

Efficient water management is becoming increasingly important as population growth, rising demand and climate-related pressures place greater stress on available water resources. Conservation measures and better coordination can help reduce waste and improve the long-term reliability of water supplies.

The meeting also highlighted the need for a coordinated approach to water resource planning, bringing relevant government agencies together to support practical and sustainable solutions.

Improved water management can contribute to urban development, public health and climate resilience by helping communities use available resources more responsibly.

The programme reflects the importance of strengthening water conservation and planning to support Punjab’s long-term water security.
