LAHORE: The Punjab Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Department has just introduced a virtual vehicle registration card, marking a step towards digitization in the province.
The move addresses lingering concerns of new vehicle owners who have faced fines from the traffic police for not issuing physical registration cards.
Now, citizens in Punjab who have registered their vehicles but haven’t received the cards can simply hop on the department’s website.
Accessible through a website or app, the virtual card can be downloaded quickly and provides a seamless experience for users who complete the online registration and ownership update phase.
According to the department’s social media post, owners just need to follow a link, enter their registration number and chassis number, and voila — the digital card is theirs.

Once obtained, owners can download the card and save it to their mobile phones for easy access. This initiative of the excise department aims to address the inconvenience faced by vehicle owners and protect them from fines and legal issues related to missing registration cards.
This is not the first digital leap for vehicle owners Punjab; the government and traffic police previously enabled online issuance of learner’s permits and digital renewal of driver’s licenses, as well as online vehicle registration and verification. An electronic driver’s license was also introduced to be shown to traffic officers, which made it easier to comply with legal regulations.
These steps offer convenience and allow people to secure important documents from the comfort of their homes.
Vehicle owners will have the convenience of getting their virtual smart cards online by completing the necessary registration procedures. These virtual smart cards will be easily downloadable from the official website of the Excise Department. Importantly, they will contain the same information as the physical cards, including details such as the vehicle registration number, owner details and vehicle specification.
