LAHORE, September 9, 2026: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has launched a major operation in Lahore against an alleged illegal operation involved in producing cooking oil from animal fat, offal and other animal waste.
The operation was conducted by the Meat Safety Team under the supervision of Director General Punjab Food Authority, resulting in the disposal of approximately 3,000 kilograms of substandard oil and 1,000 kilograms of animal fat and offal.
During the operation, food safety officials also seized 16 large cooking vessels and 27 drums being used in the suspected production process.
According to the Punjab Food Authority, the action was taken as part of efforts to prevent the production and sale of unsafe food products and protect consumers from potentially hazardous cooking oil.
The authorities also registered a criminal case over alleged food fraud and adulteration against those involved.
Officials said the crackdown forms part of the PFA’s ongoing efforts to curb food adulteration and illegal food-processing practices. The authority has warned that strict action will be taken against individuals and businesses found compromising food safety standards or putting consumers’ health at risk.
The disposal of the confiscated material and seizure of equipment is expected to disrupt the alleged illegal production activity and prevent the suspect products from entering the market.
The operation highlights the importance of stringent monitoring of food-processing facilities and effective enforcement of food safety regulations to ensure that consumers have access to safe and hygienic food products.
