Social media activist of PTI Arooba Komal has been granted bail by the Islamabad District and Sessions Court.
Judicial Magistrate Shabbir Bhatti fixed the bail at Rs 50,000.
Arooba Komal was arrested and subsequently sent to jail on judicial custody on Sunday by Justice Mureed Abbas. The case, filed under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), also involves PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan and other workers.
Komal was not named in the FIR and was represented by advocate Sardar Masroof.
Advocate Sardar Masroof, who appeared in court on behalf of Komal, noted that two other women connected to the case had already been granted bail.
On Sunday, the district and sessions courts in Islamabad remanded Raoof Hasan and other suspects to two-day physical custody under the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The court also remanded Syed Arooba in custody.
A case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) has been registered against Hasan and others. Service Magistrate Mureed Abbas pronounced a reserved verdict on the physical detention of Raoof Hasan and approved a two-day remand despite the FIA’s request for eight days. Arooba was placed in judicial custody.
The FIA public prosecutor emphasized the state’s priority in matters related to freedom of expression.
Raoof Hasan said he was not responsible for the social media activities but acknowledged his association with those arrested. The FIA prosecutor argued that physical detention was necessary to obtain information about his connections.
