ISLAMABAD: Zonal offices of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in collaboration with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted several raids on Saturday against franchises involved in illegal activation of SIM cards and illegal Internet Service Providers (ISPs). 56 suspected SIMs were seized in Sukkar and 26 active SIMs were seized in the Kasur raid. The accused persons have been detained by the FIA and First Investigation Reports (FIRs) have been filed against them, a press release said.

In addition, two raids were conducted targeting illegal ISP setups in Chichawatni. During the raids, a substantial amount of equipment was found at various locations in Chichawatni, which included 12 Optical Lines (OLT), 04 Satellite Dishes, 01 UPS, 2 Batteries, 350 meter OFC Cable, 01 Optical Network Terminal, 01 OLT Charger, and a Manual Ledger. In addition, the FIA team dismantled an illegally erected tower carrying many satellite dishes. Investigations are underway. These raids are part of the PTA’s ongoing efforts to stamp out illegal SIM card issuance and illegal ISPs.
