PTA blocks 1500 SIMs in crackdown on mobile phone fraud

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has stepped up anti-fraud measures on mobile phones and blocked more than 1,500 SIMs linked to counterfeiting.

According to details, PTA has registered a large number of complaints this year, including 6,298 hoax calls and 4,838 SMS complaints.

Of these, 782 complaints were related to WhatsApp scams, while 487 were related to scams using the Benazir Income Support Program name.

In addition, residents reported 191 hoax calls and reports related to the Big Game event.

In addition to blocking SIM cards, PTA has also taken action against cell phones by blocking the IMEI number of 1401 devices.

A PTA spokesperson confirmed that strict measures are being taken to combat fraud on mobile phones and that it is committed to protecting users from fraud.
