Shane Watson could not become the most expensive coach in Pakistan despite being offered a monthly salary of more than four million rupees (equivalent to two million dollars a year). However, he managed to achieve this distinction to some extent during the HBL PSL.
According to sources, Quetta Gladiators paid him a fee of $150,000. In Pakistani rupees, this amount is approximately 4 million and 20 million rupees.
During the event, Shane Watson stayed in Pakistan for 28 days earning a daily fee of 15 lac rupees. Despite this, there could not be a positive change in the team’s performance. Although they managed to reach the playoffs, they faced the worst defeat in the first game.
In addition, questions were also raised about Watson’s coaching style as he admitted to several problems. It is highly unlikely that he will become the head coach of Quetta Gladiators in the next HBL PSL as well.
Former West Indies star Vivian Richards used to receive up to $100,000 as a mentor for the Quetta Gladiators, but his compensation was reduced to $75,000 post-Covid.
Former coach and current team manager Moin Khan was originally under contract for $50,000. Each received an additional $10,000 when they reached the playoffs and then the finals. Team owner Nadeem Omar has always had a reputation for paying players and coaches their dues.
