One person was killed in a powerful blast in Chamrok area of Khuzdar, Balochistan on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Maulana Muhammad Siddique Mengal, president of Khuzdar Press Club. The incident highlights the risks journalists and media workers face in conflict zones.
Adding to the seriousness of the situation, nine others, including a policeman, were injured in the blast, said the police. The injured were shifted to Khuzdar Teaching Hospital.
Late Maulana Mengal, according to the police, was the deputy provincial chief of the JUI-F and was on his way to the mosque to offer prayers on Friday. According to them, a magnetic bomb hit their car in Chamrok area. Police said Mengal had been assaulted earlier.
According to CCTV footage of the incident, the terrorists were seen planting a magnetic bomb in the victim’s car. The video also shows the explosion as soon as the terrorist reaches a short distance from the vehicle.
The exact cause and nature of the explosion have not yet been determined as investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
