ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has paid tribute to Pakistan’s Armed Forces, martyrs, veterans and their families on Defence and Martyrs Day, saying September 6 remains a symbol of national sacrifice, unity and resolve.
In his message for Defence and Martyrs Day, the president said the sacrifices made in 1965 continue to hold a lasting place in Pakistan’s national history and serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.
He said the courage and determination shown by the Armed Forces and the Pakistani nation during the 1965 war reflected the country’s collective strength in the face of external threats.
President Zardari said the spirit of September 6 was once again reflected in the success of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos and Marka-e-Haq, which he described as a continuation of Pakistan’s tradition of patriotism, preparedness and national defence.
He said the achievements of the Armed Forces demonstrated their professionalism, courage and readiness, while also highlighting the longstanding bond between the military and the people.
The president reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to peace, dialogue and mutual respect at the regional and international levels, while stressing that there can be no compromise on the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security.
He said Pakistan had increasingly taken on a wider role in regional security and described the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement as a reflection of the country’s commitment to collective security and regional stability.
On Kashmir, President Zardari said lasting peace in South Asia could not be achieved without a resolution of the dispute in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He also accused India of supporting hostile elements operating against Pakistan and said the country would continue to respond to both conventional and unconventional security threats.
The president said Pakistan’s Armed Forces had repeatedly demonstrated vigilance and preparedness in defending the country and added that the nation continued to stand firmly behind them.
He stressed that national strength depended not only on defence capability but also on economic stability, political tolerance, education, development and unity.
President Zardari urged citizens to contribute to building a secure, prosperous and democratic Pakistan for future generations.
He said Defence and Martyrs Day should also serve as an occasion to renew the national commitment to protecting Pakistan’s freedom, sovereignty and security.
The president concluded by paying tribute to the martyrs and praying for peace, stability and prosperity in the country.
