Rawalpindi: Rescue 1122 has advised the public to exercise caution when using gas-powered and electric heaters.
According to an advisory from Rescue 1122, the use of gas and electric heaters increases during winter, leading to a rise in fire incidents, most of which are caused by gas leakage.
The advisory urges citizens to ensure that gas heaters, stoves, and similar devices are turned off before going to sleep at night. In case of a gas leak, they are advised not to use electrical switches or light a flame, as it could result in an explosion.
If a gas leak is suspected, the advisory suggests opening all doors and windows and evacuating the premises immediately.
It is common for gas heaters or geysers to be used for heating rooms during winter. Sometimes, due to power outages or other reasons, gas supply is interrupted, causing the heater to go out. Although the flame is extinguished, gas may continue to leak, creating a potential hazard.
Electric heaters should also be turned off before going to bed, as the heating wires could overheat and catch fire, leading to an accident.
