The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Wednesday finalized three candidates for the esteemed post of Governor of Punjab.
Sources within the party revealed that the leading contenders for the coveted role include seasoned political figures Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Nadeem Afzal Chan.
However, it is Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood who is emerging as the top priority of the party leadership.
Sources added that Mehmood’s candidature is supported not only by the PPP but also enjoys acceptance from other political parties including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
The announcement comes in the wake of the power-sharing formula for government formation and power-sharing jointly presented by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari.
The trio called a press conference at the historic Zardari House in Islamabad to unveil a joint approach to national leadership.
During a press conference, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed Shehbaz Sharif’s candidacy for prime minister, signaling his return to the top of executive power.
In addition, he unveiled the nomination of Asif Ali Zardari as the joint presidential candidate, symbolizing the united front of the PPP and the PML-N.
