PM withdraws appointment notification of chairman IRSA

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has withdrawn the notification for the appointment of the Chairman of the Indus River System Authority (IRSA).

Prime Minister Shehbaz took cognizance of the Sindh government’s reservations on the appointment of IRSA chairman.

According to Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro, PM Shehbaz Sharif and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah held a telephonic discussion on the matter related to the appointment of IRSA Chairman.

Sindh CM informed PM Shehbaz about reservations about IRSA Chairman and PM also assured withdrawal of notification for appointment of IRSA Chairman.

It is pertinent to note that the Prime Minister had earlier approved the appointment of Zafar Mehmood, a retired Federal Government BS-22 officer, as the new Chairman of IRSA.

The chairman of IRSA, which regulates water distribution among the four federal units of Punjab, Sindh, KP, and Balochistan, used to be chosen on a rotating basis from the four provincial members.
