Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has set up an inquiry committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary’s Department to investigate the wheat import issue.
The Prime Minister, who chaired a high-level meeting on the current state of wheat stocks in the country, last year asked the Ministry of National Food Security about wheat imports.
Surprised by the decision to import wheat despite the good harvest, he asked for reasons for the move by the Ministry of National Food Security.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has accepted this year’s harvest and said there is a need to take swift action to ensure timely procurement of wheat. He directed the authorities to take all necessary steps to facilitate the procurement process and compensate the farmers for their hard work.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers Ahad Khan Chema, Rana Tanwar Hussain, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Jam Kamal Khan, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzaal and other senior officials.
Low Inflation Rate
Declaring the downward trend in inflation this morning as good news for the people, the Prime Minister said that inflation has dropped to the lowest level in two years, which is a sign of economic improvement.
“This is result of hard work of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) led an interim government for 16 months.”
The prime minister said the inflation rate has dropped to 20% from 39% last month and 17% this month.
He said, reducing the rate of inflation is the government’s priority. “With the support of Allah SWT, people will be more relaxed in the coming days as economic activity increases.”
He expressed the hope that the society can be more comfortable by lowering the price of oil which is in a downward trend in the international market.
Apart from taking special measures for the implementation of food prices determined by the federal government, the Prime Minister ordered the provincial governors to ensure that the impact of the drop in oil prices reached the common people.
“By the will of the Almighty, as the economy improves, the standard of living of the people will also improve,” he said. According to the Prime Minister, the government is doing its best to give maximum freedom to the people.
