Pakistan’s Mineral Wealth Estimated at Trillion as Government Seeks Greater Investment

Pakistan’s mineral resources are estimated to be worth up to $8 trillion, highlighting the country’s vast but largely untapped potential in the mining sector.

According to reports, 92 minerals have been discovered across Pakistan, of which 52 are currently being mined on a commercial basis. Despite this resource base, the mineral sector contributes less than 3% to the country’s economy, underscoring the significant potential for growth and investment.

With effective policies, improved governance and greater investment, Pakistan’s mineral exports could reportedly increase from around $3 billion to $8 billion, creating new opportunities for economic growth, industrial development and foreign investment.

Reko Diq Project Expected To Boost Mineral Production

The Reko Diq mining project in Balochistan is expected to begin production from its first phase by the end of 2028.

The project is estimated to produce approximately 240,000 tonnes of copper and 297,000 ounces of gold annually, potentially making it a major contributor to Pakistan’s mining and export sectors.

Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026

To showcase Pakistan’s mineral resources and investment opportunities to international investors, the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum 2026 will be held in Islamabad on November 12 and 13.

The forum is expected to provide a platform for highlighting investment opportunities in Pakistan’s mining sector and attracting international partnerships.

With its substantial mineral reserves, Pakistan has the potential to transform its mining industry into a major source of exports, investment and economic growth—provided the country can strengthen policies, governance, infrastructure and investor confidence.
